Embedded Firmware Engineer

Tantalus is seeking Embedded Firmware Engineers to join our firmware team. You will be joining an exciting and well poised company with bright, hard-working individuals who are committed to delivering continued innovation to the energy utility marketplace through our TUNet smart grid communications solution.

About the position:
  • You will develop real-time software/firmware for Tantalus' wireless endpoint and wireless modem devices used within the energy utility marketspace.
  • What you need to be a successful candidate:

  • A strong background in embedded software development for real-time environments, including low level state driven applications, non-volatile memory management schemes, real time communications protocol stacks, and interrupt driven task design
  • Design experience in the implementation of real time wireless communications protocols and related applications, within small footprint, embedded Linux environments
  • Full product lifecycle experience including requirements analysis, debugging, unit test, integration, and final release validation activities, as well as enhancing and maintaining existing products
  • Demonstrated success in working with a team delivering complex embedded solutions, including effectively translating market requirements into simple technical implementations and positioning solutions for QA validation and manufacturing
  • Ability to deliver features for your product within the context of delivering solutions to customers that span all elements of the network
  • Experience working in dynamic environments within large and small companies
  • Experience mentoring junior team members
  • Experience and Education/Professional Credentials Required:
    B.A.Sc. in Computer Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering
    5-10 years work experience in firmware design for real time embedded systems with at least 3 years working experience in a Linux environment
    Experience with large source code control systems
    Strong C programming skills for embedded systems
    Experience with relevant firmware development and build tools, and firmware development processes
    Experience Desired:
    Programming ARM7 and ARM 9 based processors
    Linux device drivers
    Ability to interpret hardware designs and understanding hardware and manufacturing test requirements
    Development of fault tolerant real-time communications
    Personal Attributes Required:
    Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English
    High commitment to product quality
    Good interpersonal skills including: teamwork, respect & courtesy
    Self Starter, flexible, and able to multi-task
