October 2011 Automation Engineer - Network Server Success in developing and commercializing Smart Grid technology earned Tantalus a 2010 GLOBE Award for Environmental Excellence in the category of Technology Innovation and Application. Tantalus, in addition, was ranked 31st by Deloitte in the 2010 Technology Fast 50™ awards program, which singles out Canadian technology companies posting the highest percentage revenue growth over five years. Inclusion in the Fast 50 program makes Tantalus eligible for a prestigious Deloitte North American Technology Fast 500 ranking. The Tantalus Utility Network (TUNet®) enables a utility to precisely monitor energy usage and power quality, instantly pinpoint outages and energy losses, and remotely manage meters and other utility distribution apparatus to ensure that the grid is operating at peak performance. Utilities also use TUNet to interact with their customers in conservation and cost containment initiatives such as load shedding and customer signalling, which can alert homeowners if the price of electricity changes or if there is an urgent need to reduce energy consumption. TUNet is real-time, two-way, fixed wireless network that is used within a utility's Smart Grid ecosystem. The Tantalus Network Server is at the heart of the TUNet network. Via multiple services and applications the Network Server manages network operations, communications, data collection, and presentation. The Network Server also integrates with a utility's backend enterprise applications such as CIS, OMS and GIS systems. TUNet services and applications run on Linux servers, incorporate Oracle database technology, and utilize Java/JSP web services So if you would like to make the difference on the cutting edge of green energy - smart grid technology, our challenge may interest you. We would love to have you on our team if you are someone that loves to break code and fix it and/or by closely working with Product Development teams to make sure it gets fixed and get released as a first class product. In a sense, if you don't like to tinker and try new things from a tech standpoint, this gig probably isn't a fit for you. The key to this role is that you understand the issues in the areas of network and wireless communication protocols and the need to eliminate "the need to re-invent the wheel at each step". If you have designed, developed and executed network test solutions for wireless infrastructure products, including scripts for automated regression testing, consider yourself a solid bet into this position.
